RoboSizer
RoboSizer- Multi-spot particle size analysis for grinding circuits
The Xoptix RoboSizer is a batch-based multi-spot particle size analysis system designed for detailed monitoring of grinding circuits. Unlike fully online systems, RoboSizer measures material sequentially from several sampling points, allowing operators to monitor the complete performance of the milling and classification process from a single compact system. Built around proven Xoptix laser diffraction technology, RoboSizer combines automated sample handling, intelligent control systems, and industrial-grade hardware into a complete “particle size laboratory in a box.”
Monitor Multiple Sampling Points with One System
RoboSizer is ideal for applications where understanding the relationship between different process streams is critical. The system can automatically measure samples from:
•
Before the classifier
• Classifier reject
• Final ready product
Each sampling point is analysed individually in sequence, giving operators a complete picture of grinding circuit performance.
This multi-spot capability makes RoboSizer especially valuable for generating Tromp curves — one of the most important tools for evaluating separator efficiency and understanding classification performance inside grinding circuits. By comparing particle size distributions from multiple process locations, operators gain deep insight into circulating loads, separator behaviour, mill efficiency, and process stability.
Designed for Process Optimisation
Most plants focus on monitoring only the most critical product stream during normal operation. However, periodic analysis of additional points in the circuit provides valuable diagnostic information that cannot be achieved with single-point measurement systems.
RoboSizer helps plants:
1.Identify variability within the grinding circuit
2.Optimise separator performance
3.Improve milling efficiency
4.Reduce unnecessary energy consumption
5.Understand process instability
6.Improve product consistency
7.Support process troubleshooting and commissioning
Typical Applications
1. Multi-spot grinding circuit analysis
One of RoboSizer’s most powerful capabilities is multi-spot process monitoring. Several automatic samplers can be connected to a single RoboSizer system, allowing material from multiple locations within the grinding circuit to be measured sequentially. Typical sampling points include: Classifier reject, Before classifier, Final ready product. Each product stream is analysed one by one, making it possible to compare the behaviour of different parts of the grinding process. This data is essential for generating Tromp curves and evaluating separator efficiency.
Examples
With this instrument, we can monitor the entire grinding circuit at several sampling points. Each product is measured in turn for 10 minutes. In this way, we can identify the product with the highest variability and focus on it.
RoboSizer Installed Directly in the Production Environment
RoboSizer is designed for operation directly inside industrial plants, providing automated multi-point particle size analysis without the need for a traditional laboratory. Its compact and robust design allows seamless integration into grinding circuits and process control systems.
Key Benefits
- Multi-point measurement with one analyser
- Detailed grinding circuit understanding
- Ideal for Tromp curve generation
- Improved separator optimisation
- Identification of process variability
- Better process troubleshooting and optimisation
2. Plant Walk-Up System
RoboSizer allows plant operators and process engineers to take samples directly from production and analyse them immediately at the process line. There is no need to transport material back to a central laboratory, reducing delays and eliminating manual handling errors. Large representative samples can be analysed automatically, with all measurement results fully logged and stored for later review. This provides fast process feedback and helps operators react quickly to changing production conditions.
Key Benefits
- Immediate particle size analysis at the plant
- No laboratory transport delays
- Fully automatic measurement and logging
- Large representative sample analysis
- Faster process decisions
3.Automated Laboratory System
RoboSizer can operate as a fully automated particle size laboratory. Samples are automatically delivered to the analyser using robotic or automated feeding systems, enabling unattended operation and consistent measurement procedures. This approach improves repeatability, reduces operator workload, and provides continuous access to reliable particle size data for quality control and process optimisation.
Key Benefits
- Fully automated sample analysis
- Reduced manual laboratory work
- Consistent and repeatable measurements
- Suitable for continuous quality monitoring
- Increased laboratory efficiency
